The mission of this forum is to provide an attractive platform for entrepreneurs, scientists, investors, executives, and students to promote life sciences, biotechnology, and alliances across the biomedical industry in Southern California and Pacific Asia. The annual biomedical forum is one of the flagship events organized by SABPA OC/LA, which gathered elite speakers and attracted more than 200 attendees and 18 event sponsors in 2017. Last year events featured two world-renowned keynote speakers from academia and industry. Dr. Lee Babiss, the CEO of X-Rx Inc. and an industry leader with over 25 years of experience in global R&D, gives his perspective on global innovative medicine discovery. Dr. Jin-Quan Yu, Frank and Bertha Hupp Professor at Scripps Research Institute and 2016 MacArthur Fellow, delivered the speech on his pioneering techniques for the functionalization of carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bonds, a powerful tool in the development of versatile and beneficial chemical compounds used in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and material science.

We have invited two keynote speakers for the upcoming 13th SABPA annual biomedical forum in 2018: Dr. Cun-Yu Wang, professor of UCLA and member of National Academy of Medicine and foreign member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Dr. Ian Critchley, Vice President of Clinical Microbiology at Allergan. The event participants will include scientists, entrepreneurs, and hiring managers from local pharmaceutical, medical device and CRO companies as well as well-known professors, research scientists and students from local universities, and representatives from China Life Science Technology Park and other China venture capital investors.

Keynote Speakers
Cun-Yu Wang, D.D.S., Ph.D. is the No-Hee Park Endowed Professor and Chair in Division of Oral Biology and Medicine, the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, School of Dentistry, UCLA. He has made a landmark discovery on the regulation of cancer cell death by the transcription factor NF-kB, which was cited in one of ten important discoveries in 1996 by Science magazine. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine as a member in 2011 and to the Chinese Academy of Engineering as a foreign member in 2013.
Ian Critchley, Ph.D. is currently the Vice President of Clinical Microbiology at Allergan. Dr. Critchley obtained his PhD in Microbiology at the University of Glasgow, Scotland UK and has more than 30 years of experience in both antibacterial discovery research and development. In recent years Dr. Critchley’s team has managed pre-clinical and clinical microbiology studies to characterize the profiles of three approved antibiotics. Today Dr. Critchley’s team at Allergan continues to support antibacterial products that address existing and emerging resistance mechanisms.
